Getting there and around. Amiantos sits about 48 km from Limassol city, reached via the B8 mountain road through Troodos. Allow roughly an hour's drive on the winding, well-paved but steep route, and note the village lies about 9 km southwest of Kyperounta along the same road network.Source ↗
Good to know. The village gave its name to the mineral it mined: 'amiantos' means asbestos in Greek, and its mine was once the largest chrysotile asbestos deposit worked in Europe, operating from 1904 until closure in 1988.Source ↗
Nearby. Amiantos borders Kyperounta to the northeast, sitting a few kilometres before the Troodos peak in the Pitsilia region of Limassol district.Source ↗
Through the year. At around 1,400 metres elevation near the neighbouring Troodos Botanical Garden, the area is markedly cooler than the coast, with winter bringing rain, cold temperatures near freezing and occasional snow, while spring and summer bring full bloom and much milder conditions for walking.Source ↗

Signature events. The Amiantos Charity Race 'We Run for Life' is held annually in September at the Amiantos Exhibition Center, organised by PASYKAF with the EV ZYN Runners Club. It combines 12km and 5km road races with shorter family and children's runs, plus a nature-path walk, raising funds for cancer patient support.Source ↗
No, the two historic settlements merged into a single community named Amiantos in 2005, after Pano Amiantos was largely abandoned when the asbestos mine closed.
A visitor centre with information on Cyprus geology operates in the former village school inside the old mine area, run alongside an ongoing EU-funded landscape restoration project.
