Who we are, and how Cyprus Now works

Cyprus Now is made by a small independent team, based in Limassol. We are not owned by a venue, a promoter, a ticketing company, or a government body, which matters for one simple reason: no one can pay or pressure their way into the listings. What appears is what is actually happening around Cyprus.

We built it because finding what is on in Cyprus meant checking a dozen scattered websites, half of them out of date. So we do that checking for you, in one place, and we try to be straight with you about how.

Almost every event on Cyprus Now comes from somewhere public that already announced it. We pull from more than twenty sources across the island, and we keep adding them:

• official and municipal calendars, and government culture and tourism listings,
• municipal theatres and cultural centres,
• venue and festival websites,
• and ticketing and listings platforms.

A program visits each of these sources once a day, reads the events it finds, and standardises them into one shape so a concert from a theatre site and a festival from a ministry calendar sit side by side in the same format.

The same event is often announced in more than one place, a venue and a ticket seller and a listings site all at once. Rather than show it three times, we match those copies and merge them into a single listing, at the venue, with one set of details. It is not perfect, and now and then two versions of an event slip through, which is one of the things you can tell us about below.

We always show where an event came from. Every listing names its original source and links straight back to it, so you can check the details at the source and buy tickets from whoever is actually selling them. We are a guide to what is on, not the box office.

Our aim is a complete, honest picture of public events in Cyprus. That means some rules about what makes it on.

• Real, public, upcoming events. Once an event is over it moves to an archive rather than sitting at the top pretending to still be on.
• Automatic listings, checked by a person when someone adds one. Events we gather from public sources are published as we find them. An event an organiser submits, or an advertiser pays to place, is read by a person before it appears.
• A price only when we actually know it. If a source does not tell us the price, we leave it blank rather than guess. We do not label something free unless we know it is free.
• No junk. Placeholder or nameless venues, and pages that are not really events, are dropped rather than listed.

Cyprus Now is free to read, and being listed is free. We pay for the site by selling advertising to local businesses, directly, ourselves. We are honest about how that works because it is the easiest place for a site like this to quietly mislead people.

• Ads are clearly marked as ads. We never dress a paid placement up as an ordinary listing.
• Paying for a placement buys a labelled slot. It does not buy a better spot in the normal listings, and it does not get an event listed that we would not have listed anyway.
• We run no third-party ad networks or tracking pixels. The ads are images and links we sold ourselves, not surveillance. The full detail is on our privacy page.

Because most of our events come from other people's websites, a detail can be wrong at the source, or an event can change after we picked it up. A date moves, a venue changes, something is cancelled, or a listing is here that should not be.

When that happens, tell us and we will fix or remove it. Email hello@cyprusnow.app, point us at the listing, and a person reads it and acts on it. There is no form to fight with.
