Omodos
Troodos foothills, Limassol district
The best-known of the Krasochoria, the wine villages that climb the southern slopes of Troodos. Omodos wraps a cobbled square and the Timios Stavros monastery in family wineries and old stone wine presses, and its grape and palouzes festivals draw crowds every autumn harvest.
Kathikas & the Laona wineries
Laona plateau, Paphos district
The high Laona plateau above Paphos is home to some of the island's most celebrated estates, Vasilikon and Sterna among them, working the indigenous Xynisteri grape at altitude. Kathikas village anchors the region, with a wine museum and cellar doors open for tastings.
Commandaria
Fourteen villages north of Limassol
Cyprus's ancient amber dessert wine, sun-dried from Xynisteri and Mavro grapes, is protected to fourteen villages on the Troodos foothills and is often called the world's oldest named wine still in production. Look for it at village feasts alongside palouzes and soutzoukos.
