Nicosia District

Getting there and around. Nicosia sits at the top of the A1 motorway, roughly 75 to 84 km (about 50 to 60 minutes) from Limassol depending on the route through each city. Cyprus Public Transport runs Nicosia's urban and rural bus network (formerly OSEL, now operated as Nicosia Public Transport), with about 180 routes and over 1,700 stops covering the city and surrounding villages.Source ↗

Good to know. Nicosia is the last divided capital city in the world: the UN-patrolled Green Line has split it into Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides since 1974, and pedestrians can still walk across the ceasefire line at the Ledra Street crossing point with just a passport or EU ID card.Source ↗

Parking. The municipality runs about 20 public car parks around the old town and city centre, including large lots like Tripolis (352 spaces) and Davilla (250 spaces), mostly ringing the Venetian Walls and moat so visitors walk in on foot. Central street parking inside the walls is scarce, so the moat-area municipal lots are the realistic option for a day visit.Source ↗

Signature events. The Nicosia International Festival (staged by Nicosia for Art / University of Cyprus Cultural Festival) runs across June and into July, filling venues across the capital with theatre, contemporary dance, classical and jazz music, and silent film screenings with live music. It is the city's flagship annual performing arts event.
