Vouni

Getting there and around. Vouni sits in the Krasochoria wine region of the Limassol district at about 800m altitude, roughly 45 minutes' drive from Limassol city. The route runs from the A6 motorway onto the F606, through Avdimou and Pachna village, following local signs the rest of the way to Vouni. There is no public bus service documented for the village, so a rental car is effectively required.Source ↗

Good to know. Vouni's name means low mountain in Greek, fitting for a village perched at roughly 800m on the southern Troodos slopes. It was once the third-largest wine-growing village in the Limassol district, with 40 percent of its land under vines, though its year-round population has fallen from over 1,200 in 1946 to only 136 by 2001.Source ↗

Through the year. Vouni sees its liveliest weeks in late summer and early autumn around the grape harvest and Palouzes Festival, when former residents and visitors return in numbers. In winter several of the village's small restaurants and guesthouses close, so it is worth checking ahead before visiting outside the warmer months.Source ↗

Signature events. Vouni's Palouzes Festival runs every year in the third week of September, celebrating the traditional Cypriot grape jelly (palouzes) made from the local harvest. A separate grape harvest festival, with wooden-press winemaking demonstrations and grape-stomping, is also held around late August to early September in step with the village's own vintage.Source ↗
