Frenaros

Getting there and around. Frenaros sits inland in the Famagusta district, about 4 miles (6.5 km) west of Paralimni. OSEA, the district's public bus operator, runs several rural routes through the village linking it to Deryneia, Paralimni, Sotira and Agia Napa, plus a route toward Larnaca via Xylotympou. There is no direct highway; access is via local B-roads through the Kokkinochoria villages.Source ↗

Frenaros takes its name from the Fremenors, a group of Lusignan-era monks who once lived at the nearby monastery of Panagia of Hortakion; the village today is one of the Kokkinochoria, named for the iron-rich red soil that makes it one of Cyprus's biggest watermelon and potato producers.Source ↗

Signature events. Frenaros hosts the region's Watermelon Festival at the Community Stadium, held in July with free watermelon, cocktails and preserves plus music, dancing and craft stalls. The village also marks the Feast of Archangelos Michael every 6 September with stalls, entertainment and local food outside the Church of Archangelos Michael.
