About Vouni palace
Vouni Palace sits on a hilltop near Lefke in northern Cyprus, overlooking the ancient city of Soli it was built to watch over. Raised around 500 BC by a pro-Persian ruler of Marion, it passed to Greek control in 449 BC and briefly became a royal residence of 137 rooms before Soli's people destroyed it in 380 BC. Swedish archaeologists excavating in 1928 and 1929 recovered gold bracelets and silver coins, among the finest surviving examples of Persian goldwork found on the island.
