About Church Panagia Galoktisti
The Chapel of Panagia tis Galoktisti stands on high ground between the villages of Kato and Pano Pyrgos. It is among the oldest religious buildings on the island: its interior preserves hagiographies dated to the 12th and 14th centuries, restored by the Department of Antiquities. Local tradition holds that its name, meaning 'built with milk,' comes from shepherds who vowed to build the church after praying for their sick sheep to recover.
