About Chapel of Panagia Galoktisti
The Chapel of Panagia Galoktisti stands on high ground between Kato and Pano Pyrgos. Its name, meaning 'built with milk', comes from a tradition that shepherds built it after praying to the Virgin Mary to cure their sick sheep. Hagiographies inside are dated to the 12th and 14th centuries, making it one of the oldest chapels in Cyprus, and the Department of Antiquities has restored the building. Local lore also tells of a nursing mother who regained her milk after praying there. The original icon is now kept at the Church of Saints Constantinos and Eleni in the village centre.
