About Soloi
Soli lies in the Lefke district of Northern Cyprus, on the island's northwest coast. Tradition credits Athenians returning from the Trojan War with founding it in the 13th century BC as Aipeia, later renamed for the Athenian statesman Solon, who moved it to serve copper exports. Its Roman-era theatre, agora and two basilicas were excavated by Swedish and Canadian teams from 1929 onward, and a swan mosaic recovered from one basilica became the site's emblem. Arab raids destroyed the city in the 7th century.
