About Agios Thomas
Agios Thomas sits on a hill 2 kilometres from Anogyra in the Limassol hills, its Byzantine-sounding name suggesting roots long before its recent history. Until 1974 the village was entirely Turkish Cypriot; its residents fled to the Akrotiri base that July and were transferred to northern Cyprus by January 1975, leaving the settlement behind. A kilometre west of the village, a small cave once used as a hidden church by Turkish Cypriot crypto-Christians survives as a quiet trace of that older, mixed religious history.
