About Agios Georgios Chortakion
Agios Georgios Chortakion is one of several churches around Sotira, a Kokkinochoria village in the Famagusta district known for its red-soil farmland, dating from between the 13th and 16th centuries. Like its neighbours, it is a modest stone church built in the Byzantine style, still standing among the watermelon and fig fields that give the village its name. It shares the village with a larger 16th-century church, the Transfiguration of the Saviour, with its own ecclesiastical museum.
