About Panagia tis Asinou
Panagia tis Asinou stands alone in forest a few kilometres south of Nikitari, begun in 1105 as the catholicon of the now-vanished Phorbion monastery. Its frescoes span the 12th to 14th centuries, from the Communion of the Apostles in the apse to a Second Coming scene in the narthex, under a plain timber roof rebuilt in 1959. It is one of ten Troodos churches on Cyprus's UNESCO World Heritage list, inscribed in 1985.
