About Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary the Chrysokourdaliotissa
This monastery church in Kourdali, in the Solea valley of the Troodos foothills, was founded in the 16th century by the deacon Leone Kourdalis, according to its own foundation stone. The three-aisled interior keeps wall paintings and icons from that century in an Italo-Byzantine style, with a carved wooden iconostasis from the 16th and 17th centuries. It stands on Cyprus's UNESCO tentative list as an extension of the Painted Churches of the Troodos Region, and returned to monastic use as a women's community in 2006.
