About Metamorphosis of Christ Old Church, Sotira
This is the old parish church of Sotira, a village in the Famagusta district that takes its name from the church itself, dedicated to the Metamorphosis (Transfiguration) of Christ. The present stone, single-aisle vaulted building dates to the 16th century and stands on the foundations of an earlier Byzantine basilica, with wall paintings in the Komnenian style. As the congregation grew, a newer church was built beside it in the 20th century, leaving this one preserved as the village's original.
