About Metamorfosi tou Sotira
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour was Kakopetria's central church until 1994. Building began in 1520 using stone from the nearby Karkotis and Garillis rivers, in a single-nave basilica style showing both Gothic and Byzantine influence, with a steep wooden gabled roof typical of Troodos churches. It was enlarged in 1880 and again in 1960. Frescoes uncovered under the floor carry the name of the painter Symeon Auxentis.
