About Fikardou Rural Museum
The Fikardou Rural Museum occupies the Katsinioros and Achilleas Dimitri houses in Fikardou, a village abandoned in the early 19th century and later declared an Ancient Monument. The two-storey stone houses, with wooden double-slope roofs and Venetian-period features, show how a rural family lived: the upper floor for living quarters, the ground floor for work, storage and animals. Both houses won the Europa Nostra award in 1987, and the village has been a Department of Antiquities controlled area since 1978.
