About Ancient Sanctuary at Marion
In the Peristeries area of Polis Chrysochous, Princeton University's Cyprus Expedition excavated an Iron Age sanctuary dedicated to a female fertility goddess, in use from roughly the tenth to the early fifth century BC. Digs conducted between 1988 and 2000 recovered several thousand terracotta figurines and statuettes, along with vases, animal bones, bronze bowls and an iron roasting spit. Finds from the site are on permanent display at the Local Museum of Marion and Arsinoe in Polis.
