About Agios Georgios
Agios Georgios stands on the coast at Peyia, a cruciform stone church with a central dome and twin belfries, its origins reaching back to the Byzantine era though the building seen today has been rebuilt over the centuries. It sits beside the ruins of three sixth-century early Christian basilicas, excavated in the 1950s, that once served a settlement on this stretch of coast. Today the church is a popular spot for weddings, framed by the sea.
