About Fig Tree Bay
Fig Tree Bay takes its name from a single fig tree that has stood on the headland since it arrived with eastern traders in the 17th century, long before Protaras grew from a fishing area into a resort town. The 500-metre stretch of fine sand and clear water carries Blue Flag status, and the name has stuck through every stage of the area's development, a plain local reference that predates the tourism it now anchors.
