About Aphrodite's temple
The Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepaphos sits in the village of Kouklia, about 14 kilometres east of Paphos. Founded around the twelfth century BC, it served as a place of worship for the goddess until the third or fourth century AD, and tradition holds it as the most renowned of her sanctuaries in the ancient world. A Lusignan-era manor house on the site now holds a museum tracing the site's history. UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage site in 1980.
