About Agios Demetrios
Kalavasos-Agios Dimitrios was a planned Late Bronze Age town of about 10 hectares near Cyprus's south coast, flourishing from roughly 1500 to 1200 BC on the strength of nearby copper sources and Mediterranean trade routes. Excavations from 1979 to 1998, part of the Vasilikos Valley Project led by Ian Todd and Alison South, uncovered domestic, industrial and administrative buildings sharing one orientation, plus imported Mycenaean pottery in elite tombs, evidence of the settlement's reach into Aegean, Near Eastern and Egyptian trade networks.
