GALATAS TRADITIONAL AND AUTHENTIC FLAVORS FESTIVAL is a Dance event at Galata Square on Saturday, 5 September 2026 at 16:00. Admission is free.
Galata is a village with a long history, rich cultural heritage and strong traditions. It is renowned for its traditional watermills which harnessed the flow of the Karkotis river to grind cereals and produce various types of flower. The village is also well known for its six byzantine churches, its balcony which the longest in Cyprus, the oldest historic fountain in the region and the traditional local bakery which has been operating continuously for more than 70 years.
The festival aims to showcase not only the traditional bakery products for which our community is renowned, but also a wide range of local traditional products. These include dairy products (such as halloumi, cheese and trahana processed meat (such aw traditional sausages and lountza) fruit preserves (including jams and spoon sweats) as well as confectionery (such as daktyla and pittes). Homemade products prepared by local residents will also be exhibited.
The festival will take place in the village’s central square ana along the main street leading to to the square.
Visitors will have the opportunity to actively participate in the event by watching demonstrations of the preparation of traditional local delicacies. Children will be able to engange in creative activities, while hands –on baking workshops will also be organized.
The program will also include guided visits to the Folk Art museum, the Poyiatzis fountain and the recently restored Rodous Watermill, all located within walking distance of the festival venue. Part of the tour is also the existing Nature Trail, which includes the Church of Panagia Podithou, a UNESCO world Heritage site.
The festival will conclude with a cultural program featuring traditional music and dance perfomances.
