About Timiou Stavrou
The Church of the Holy Cross stands at the heart of Pano Lefkara and dates to the 14th century, though the building seen today was largely remodelled in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its wooden iconostasis, carved in 1760, houses a silver cross with 14 reliefs depicting scenes from Christ's life; tradition holds it contains a fragment of the True Cross brought to the village by Saint Helena. The bell tower was added in 1857, funded by Lefkara residents living abroad.
