About Panagia Stazousa
Panagia Stazousa is a small Gothic church west of Larnaca, between the villages of Pyrga and Klavdia, built by Frankish monks in the early 14th century. Local tradition holds that a noblewoman was cured of illness after kissing its icon of the Virgin Mary, and the church was enlarged and dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi, the Life-Giving Spring, in thanks. Abandoned under Ottoman rule and damaged by fire, it still holds icons and frescoes from its monastic centuries.
