About Panagia, Agios Sozoenos
This site lies in the abandoned village of Agios Sozomenos, a few kilometres outside Nicosia, between Dali, Geri and Potamia. Alongside a church associated with the Panagia dedication, it holds the small tomb of Saint Sozomenos, a hermit venerated on 20 to 21 November who is said to have lived here as an ascetic before the Frankish period. The tomb is cut into rock at the edge of a hillside on the village's outskirts. The village itself was abandoned after intercommunal violence in 1963.
