About Kourion Ancient Theatre
Kourion's theatre stands on a cliff above the sea near Episkopi, first built in the 2nd century BC and later enlarged by the Romans to hold up to 3,500 spectators for plays, concerts, and gladiatorial contests. Kourion itself traces back to a 13th-century-BC foundation by settlers from Argos, and the city never fully recovered after 4th-century earthquakes. The theatre, though, still hosts open-air performances each summer, with the Roman-era House of Eustolios and its mosaic floors close by.
