About Kourion Episcopal Basilica
The Episcopal Basilica crowns the bluffs of ancient Kourion, built at the start of the fifth century and renovated through the sixth. A three-aisled cathedral running east to west, it carried walls faced in white marble, aisle floors laid in opus sectile, and a nave in polychrome mosaic, alongside a narthex, atria and an episcopal palace. Arab raids destroyed it in the seventh century, leaving the plan of one of Cyprus's grandest Early Christian churches traced out in stone.
