About Megas Agros Monastery Church and Museum
A small church dedicated to Panagia Eleousa stands at the centre of Agros, on the site of the historic Monastery of Panagia tou Megalou Agrou, which burned down in 1894. Tradition holds the monastery was founded by monks who had fled Cyzicus during the iconoclast period. Beside the church, a small museum holds items rescued from the ruined monastery, among them an iconostasis, icons, manuscripts and early printed books, along with architectural and fresco fragments found in the churchyard.
