About Panagia Galaktoforousa Church
Panagia Galaktoforousa sits among the orange groves near Asomatos village outside Limassol, a chapel known in its present form since the 16th century but built over foundations reaching back to the late 11th or early 12th century, when the church still had a dome. A fire in 2000 damaged the structure but in doing so exposed these older foundations beneath it. The name, "she who feeds milk," is one of the Orthodox titles for the Virgin Mary as nursing mother.
