About Chryspolitissa Orthodox Church

Chryspolitissa Orthodox Church, also known as Panagia Chryssopolitissa, stands at the corner of Archiepiskopou Kyprianou Avenue and Panagias Chrysopolitissas street in Larnaca. It was built between 1765 and 1769, most likely on the foundations of an earlier 12th-century church destroyed in the mid-18th century. The building has colonnaded galleries, a bell tower added in the mid-19th century, and a wooden roof carried on central columns. Inside, a gold-plated iconostasis dating to 1866 holds 87 icons spanning the 16th to 19th centuries. The church opens on Sunday mornings and public holidays; its garden is open to visitors at other times.
