About Ayia Mavri
Ayia Mavri chapel stands beside the Kryos river, between Koilani and Pera Pedi in the Limassol district, next to a plane tree said to be some 1,200 years old. Built in the mountain-chapel style typical of the region, with a sloping wooden roof, it sits against a vertical rock face, with steps cut into the stone leading up to an icon. Fragments of the original frescoes survive inside. Local tradition holds that Ayia Mavri and Timotheos, two young lovers from Koilani, fled here on the eve of a forced marriage.
