Whispers of Legacy: The Art of John Corbidge

Opening reception on Friday 9 October at 7pm, addressed by Melissa Corbidge. The exhibition then stays open until Thursday 15 October.

As part of Limassol Art Walks 2026, morfi gallery presents a retrospective exhibition showcasing a rare selection of paintings by the late artist John Corbidge. Curated by Anna Agapiou, the exhibition presents significant works drawn directly from the private collection of the artist's daughter, Melissa Corbidge, offering art lovers, collectors and a new generation of art enthusiasts a rare, intimate and deeply personal glimpse into Corbidge's artistic legacy and vision.

John Corbidge (1935-2003) was born in Sheffield, UK. He trained at the Sheffield College of Art and, on a scholarship, at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, graduating in 1956 before leaving England for the Mediterranean. He lived and painted in France and Italy, then spent long periods in Greece and Cyprus, working across painting, drawing, ceramics, murals, bas-reliefs and poetry. Keeping Cyprus as the base for his work, he moved away from the grey industrial landscapes of Northern England towards a Mediterranean Cubism fused with ancient iconography and the vibrant colours of the Mediterranean. In his later years he established a studio in Lania, a village near Limassol, where he lived until his death.
