1st Fish Festival - “Celebration of the Fisherman and the Liopetri River”

The Municipality of Agia Napa is organising the 1st Fish Festival – “Celebration of the Fisherman and the Liopetri River”, a special event dedicated to the sea, the fisherman, fishing traditions and the cultural heritage of the Liopetri Municipal Quarter.

The Liopetri River is a distinctive landmark of the area. It is a place of unique natural beauty, closely connected with the history, tradition and everyday life of the people of Liopetri.

The River is not simply a place. It is memories, people, stories and life. It is the fishermen, the boats, the nets, the longlines, the skarka and all those elements that have been passed down from generation to generation and today form an integral part of our cultural heritage.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy free fish, as well as a variety of seafood flavours and traditional recipes, as part of a unique gastronomic experience.

At the same time, professional fishermen will demonstrate their craft live through traditional fishing techniques, including nets, longlines, skarka and other tools and methods associated with Liopetri’s fishing heritage.

A special place in the Festival will be given to the photography exhibition “The River That Lives in Our Memories.” Through rare images and photographs inspired by the memories and lives of local residents, visitors will have the opportunity to travel back in time and discover a River that is different, yet at the same time deeply familiar.

For our younger visitors, interactive sea-themed activities will be organised, offering children an enjoyable and educational way to discover the marine world.

The evening will culminate in a rich artistic programme featuring tsiattista traditional improvised verse, recitations by the Liopetriot group Kotrofisimi Foni, island dances and a major traditional island-style celebration with Matthaios Giannoulis and Nikos Chaivadakis.

The 1st Fish Festival is a celebration of flavours, music, tradition, memory and the sea, honouring the fisherman, the Liopetri River and the Municipality of Agia Napa as a whole.
