About
The Makarios III Amphitheatre is Nicosia's grand open-air stage, built in the 1950s in the grounds of the School for the Blind at Strovolos and reckoned the oldest modern amphitheatre in Cyprus. It seats up to 1,585 on its tiers, with space for wheelchairs and dressing rooms behind the stage, and is managed by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation. It is one of the capital's main summer stages, regularly hosting the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama alongside concerts and touring theatre.
