About
The Makarios III Amphitheatre is Nicosia's grand old open-air stage, built in the 1950s in the grounds of the School for the Blind and counted the oldest modern amphitheatre on the island. It is large by Cypriot standards, seating close to 1,600 on stone tiers, and has long been one of the capital's main summer venues for theatre and concerts. Managed by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, it regularly hosts the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama.
